When the whole stay-at-home thing started, I had plans to be productive. I was going to focus on what I had to get done, clean out my closets, and really make the most of this time. Well, fast forward 43? days later and some of that happened, but not most of it. Like pretty much everyone else, I’ve been in this constant state of mild anxiety, frustration, boredom, and just wanting to know when all this will end.
So, with at least a few more weeks (likely much longer here in Boston) of all of us staying home, I’ve been relying on a few apps to get through the days and to be as productive as I can. Here they are:
Peloton
I don’t have a Peloton but it seems like literally everyone does right now and I’m having major #FOMO. But, I still downloaded the app (first 90 days are free right now) and have been doing some of their stretching, meditation, and yoga videos. They’re pretty quick and easy to follow and have been helping me move at least a little in between periods of laying on the couch crushing anything and everything on Netflix.
Melissa Wood Health
Just like the Peloton app, the Melissa Wood Health app has been getting me off the couch. Pretty much every podcast I listen to has mentioned it which is how I found out about it, but I’m obsessed. You can pick your workout video based on how much time/what level/and what kind of workout you want to do which is great. Also, the app itself is simple and aesthetically pleasing — a real win for me because I hate when apps are super busy or full of ads/content.
Done
One of my biggest goals for 2020 is to develop some better habits. This app helps me do that while also satisfying my need for checking things off — TBH, I’ll add things I’ve already done to my to-do lists just because I love the feeling of crossing something off. I don’t have the paid version so I can only add 3 habits in at a time but I told myself if I can stick to the 3 habits for a month I’ll splurge the $10 for the full version. Basically, you can set daily, weekly, or monthly habits and track when you follow them and set reminders. For example, I have a drink more water habit, and I know there are a ton of apps for that, but having multiple habits in one app is just more efficient.
Daylio
I feel like I should have been keeping a journal since all this started because not only have my moods been all over the place but so have my dreams. I’ve had the wildest dreams and I don’t usually remember them, but the last month or so I have been. The Daylio app is basically a digital journal where you can track your mood and leave notes on your day. It’s super simple and you can just select icons related to your day (spent time with friends/family, ate healthily, slept early, exercise). It’s been neat to see how my mood has changed each night based on what I got done that day.
TikTok
Full disclosure, I’ve been on the TikTok train since January 2019 but lately I’ve become obsessed — like, sometimes spending 4 hours scrolling through and then looking at my clock and its 3AM obsessed. Even though some of the videos are cringe-worthy, the content that people have come up with while stuck at home with their families has been 🔥and I’m here for it. It’s helping me laugh every day (sometimes cry) which is a big plus for me right now.
