Mid-year Regroup

Mid-year Regroup

On January 1, 2019, I was ready to tackle the year head-on. I was excited, motivated and looking forward to a fresh start. Two weeks later, that all went out the window. I was still excited and enjoying a fresh start but my motivation started lacking. Obviously, this isn’t a surprise because a new year shouldn’t be a reason to make all these new changes and goals. But, 6 months later and a lot of the things I had planned for 2019 are still in limbo.

So, I’m regrouping. Inspired by Lauren Elizbeth’s New Year’s Goals, I’m embarking on a mid-year regroup to circle back on my original plan for the year. I think checking in on ourselves once in a while and seeing where we’re at emotionally, physically, and mentally is important throughout the year, not just come December 31. So, here we go.

Lauren got the idea from Keltie on The Lady Gang and followed their commitment categories. Essentially, you pick a few areas of your life and hone in on one or a few things from each category. I’m not feeling overly creative so I decided to go with theirs: Love, Family, Home, Business, Money, Travel, Self Care, Health, and Silly.

Love: Love myself and everyone around me more. Appreciate everything that’s good and focus on the things and people that matter.

Family: I already spend a lot of time with my family but I don’t feel like we’re all present when we’re together. I think we could all benefit from putting the phones, computers, and TV aside and focusing on just being together.

Home: Keep everything clean and organized most of the time. Whenever laundry piles up or stuff starts cluttering all the counters and tables, everything in my life falls apart. When my space is tidy, life just seems to go smoother.

Business: The list is too long to count. I have a lot of business/career related goals for this year but the number one is to finish my Master’s degree.

Money:  Save. Save. Save some more. Set aside money each month that I can’t touch and spend on a whim.

Travel: Go somewhere new. Luckily this is already happening in a couple weeks so I’m happy to be knocking this one out early!

Self Care: Listen to my body. Go to bed when I’m tired. Hydrate and fuel my body with what it needs. Do more face masks and find a good eye cream (recommendations welcome).

Health: Overall, I need to do better in the health category. I’m overdue for appointments with all my doctors and hate to admit I haven’t been to the dentist in a few years. The hardest thing about #adulting is when your mom doesn’t make your appointments for you anymore.

Silly: Put myself together most days. One of the things I randomly noticed one day that has stuck with me is how older women (like 75+) put themselves together every time they leave the house. Their hair is done, they put on earrings and it’s just so endearing to me. So, I’m taking a note from them and working to put myself together more when I leave the house. Instead of throwing on leggings and a sweatshirt, throwing my hair in a bun and calling it day, I’ll make a little effort.
